Originally designed and built by Mamod in the 1980s, and now still produced in the UK by MSS since the early 1990's, this is one of the most popular and successful range of live steam garden railways over the last 30 years. These models are ideal for the garden railway beginner as well as the more experienced enthusiast as the design lends itself well to upgrading and endless modifications. It is also the lowest cost introduction to live steam garden railways available today.

30 YEARS OF STEAM As a tribute to mark 30 years of steam from one of the most successful garden railway loco designs, we are proud to announce a limited edition of 30 modified MSS 0-4-0 side tank locomotives planned for release to collectors from October 2009. New Parts Pages We have added some new products to our standard parts range and have now split the old Standard Parts page into two new pages for Loco Parts and Rolling Stock Parts. On the new Loco Parts page you will now find a new range of washer, seal and fastener packs and the inner parts of the steam dome available. We will be adding the cylinder trunnion bolt and spring and reverse valve centre bolt and spring soon. On the new Rolling Stock Parts page you will now find a new range of all the rolling stock body and chassis parts including a fastener pack. New Technical Data Page We have now move some technical data and information to a new Technical Data page and included instructions and diagrams fro the locos to help you with your projects. We will be adding data for the rolling stock and track soon. Please see our Technical Data page for details.
New Special Editions Page We have moved our special edition locos and tenders to a separate page now as this is where any new special or limited edition locos and rolling stock will be seen. We currently have our Royal Blue and Red Lined Loco and Tender along with the MSS Spark Arrester Loco and Tender listed, but hope to be adding more in the future. Please see our Special Editions page for details.
New Enhancements Page We have moved our various upgrade products that enhance the look of your loco from the Upgrades page to a new Enhancements page as this range is due to expand and deserves it own category. Please see our Enhancements page for details. We have added a Character Figures section to this where you will find our new drivers 'Old Buffer' and 'Swifty' made for us by Rob Bennett at Busy Bodies. We plan to add a few more characters including a Guard and some Passengers soon. Here you will also find a new range of Cast Brass Fittings also made for us by Rob Bennett at Busy Bodies. Further fixtures and fitting will be added as they become available.
Garden Rail Magazine Articles
The proprietor of Dream Steam, Alan Dunster, has recently started a series of articles published in Garden Rail magazine to mark the 30th years of the old Mamod and current MSS design. The first article appeared in the January 09 issue (173) covering design and development, and the companies behind the loco. The second article appeared in the May 09 issue (177) covering the range of models and spin-offs over the years. Other articles will include buying, running, maintenance, upgrading and converting.
